some time out..

Icicles
Photo is a copy of a slide taken by M in the 80's..not sure where..somewhere in Tassie wilderness :)

Things are a little busy atm and I'm going to take some time out

for the next couple of weeks or so.. Hopefully I'll have lots to share
after that..especially some craftiness..and of course catch up on all
your news soon.  S
orry I've been MIA lately, just need to prioritise my time
better
which means less time on here. Take care all  Gina xox

iron and wine

I never tire of listening to this group..it all started with this song..'Naked As We Came'
..it's such a beautiful song, love the harmonies.  Many fellow Twilight lovers will be
familiar with another of their songs..'Flightless Bird' from the movie soundtrack
..Enjoy

123 challenge

Here is this month's entry for the 123 challenge blog. This month, the challenge is to use
lots of buttons, hand-stitching and fabric. I've misted the background cardstock once again,
this time using an old lace doily as the mask..it reminds me of a sand dollar :)
The photo of Jem is was taken last year at
Greens Beach on the N coast of Tasmania..
she was really excited to find lots of cute
wallaby tracks in the sand...TFL :)

DSC06915

I enjoyed making the 2 large flowers by layering scrunching tissue paper..then added
fabric circles inside.. the blue leaves have been cut from
the same small piece of fabric.

misty eyed...

I've been playing with glimmer-mists this weekend and used them to colour and mask
on the following 2 layouts..in this one I gave the white card a light spray
with blue and
purple..the large splotches are from a clogged up nozzle on the
purple bottle, but I
quite like the effect and shook it over the card.. I used a Pumpkin
Pink chipboard shape
to mask the journal spot and stamped the 'creative' in the
title and also the flourishes. ..

This LO is for the Out of the Hat challenge blog where I am guest design team member
this month. The June challenge is to use lots of flourishes, hand stitching
and a 5 word title

DSC06903

some little blue beads stitched in place

DSC06904

and this layout started out as a white sheet of cardstock, I've used 3 different
glimmer-mists here..(must get some new colours soon) and added in
yellow with a water colour pencil.

I got some good news recently..coming 3rd place in the Wicked Princesses Seven Deadly
SIns challenge...I was doubtful that I would be able to stick to it for 7 weeks, but so
glad I did, I ended up scrapping things I never would have and thoroughly enjoyed it.

SSS #28

well we've actually had a couple of days with sun this week so snapped
this shadow on a window sill..it's from the outdoor chair on the verandah

Marriotts Falls

It's school holidays for my 2 at the moment..and I've kept working this time around,
while M has
been able to take some time off, last week he took them to Marriotts
Falls State Reserve -
in the SW of Tasmania (just south of Mt. Field National Park)

DSC06857

yes..it really is that green, no photo editing..since these pics were taken we've
had a lot of
rain so the falls would be even more impressive at the moment

DSC06859

..and some interesting fungi in the rainforest..

Rhiannon's ASJ entry

The school holidays have begun today for the girls and while Jem's at a friends house,
Rhi has created this fun LO for the Aussie Scrap Jack challenge...this month, they've
jacking the very talented 15yo Ruby Bisson! It's hard to tell but there are streaks
of blue glimmer mist down the page..but as there is no sun today..can't really see
it...She's also stamped the large E and done some cool doodling  :)

scraps and cards...

Earlier this week I scrapped this pic of Jem on her birthday last year when she
received her first watch..a cute Hello Kitty one :)

DSC06774

.and no they're not boot prints..it's paint stencilling ;P

DSC06766

DSC06767

last week's challenge on Wicked Princesses was the 'greed' sin..and having to use a
yellow, black and white colour scheme..so I chose one of several greedy obsessions I have..

DSC06785

...and the card with the same colours and 'best wishes' theme

DSC06773

Week 6, starting today is the 'gluttony' sin and I made the card today..will share
the layout later this week..still thinking about how to go about it..

DSC06806

Thanks for looking..wishing you a good week ahead :)

23 May 2009

on the way home...

It was such a gorgeous Autumn afternoon yesterday..and while driving home I had to
stop and take a few pics to share..this is the view along the main road in my town..

DSC06787

DSC06788

the peak in the distance is known as 'Sleeping Beauty' as it resembles a woman laying on
her back from certain angles..the previous day there was snow on top!

DSC06791

and here are my nearest neighbours on the opposite side of our road..

DSC06725

an old picker's hut on the start of our property..just love the colours in the flaky paint..

DSC06792

some old wattles in the gully..

DSC06803

Thanks for joining me..will share some more of my surrounds soon. Happy Saturday! :)

20 May 2009

coffee break..

DSC06736
Rhiannon's been baking again..chocolate chip scones..just for something different! :)
The recipe calls for currants with chocolate crosses piped on top, but instead she just
added
chocolate chips to the scone dough..they tasted just as good as they look..

OOTH challenge

Here's my May entry for the Out of the Hat challenge..this month, the 3 criteria
were to use the masking technique, different fibres and scrap paper...
so I used some chipboard circles and masked over with glimmer mists..then
filled in with pattern paper..can't wait to use this technique more! :)

Shadow Shot Sunday ~ # 27

DSC06734

I found this guy lurking on my kitchen wall this afternoon..I haven't noticed him

there before..wonder if he'll visit me again some day..

DSC06735

Oh wait..I'm sure he will..the next time we feast on some pasta for lunch :)
Get your weekly feast of shadows over at Hey Harriet...and a huge congrats to
Tracy (and all the shadow shooters around the world)..today is the first
anniversary of SSS!! ..it's been wonderful to be involved and see so many
cool shadows over the last year.. :)

Shadow

Have a great Sunday all!

13 May 2009

laugh a minute..

M and I watched this last night..and it was such a crack up!..I haven't
laughed this
much watching a movie for yonks! Simon Pegg was brilliant in
Hot Fuzz..and he did not disappoint in this one!...neither did Dylan Moran
(from Blackbooks)
I had to keep rewinding little bits of dialogue as we were
both
laughing so hard we missed the next bit.. hope you enjoy this clip :)

Note: if it keeps freezing..let it play through once with sound off - should play ok 2nd time

some reveals..

I've been busy scrapping whenever I get the chance lately..and this one is for the
May 123 challenge blog...the requirements were to use 3 pieces of ribbon creatively,
a long and mixed title and to use journaling spot (cut mine in half).. heaps of fun
making this a whimsical LO to match the photo.. Also I was very grateful to be
the featured member here this month..thanks Charmane and Karlene :)

DSC06712

DSC06713

..and back to the '7 Deadly Sins' challenge happening over at Wicked Princesses..
this was the 2nd sin..'Envy'..so here is my take on that one..seems like I'm not
alone on this one either!

DSC06672

..and I found the 'Wrath' challenge..quite hard last week..trying to come up with
something that angered me..beyond the everyday things..such as mud being traipsed
through the house..etc..so I based it on the feelings I had as a child learning about
the slaughter of seal pups and without going into the gory details of how this was
done..I don't recall having such strong emotions of sadness and anger at that age
(about 11) as I had over this...Of course this is only one topic..the same could be
said about whaling, animal smuggling and even battery hens..maybe another LO ;P

DSC06705

Yesterday I did this one for the 'sloth' sin challenge...and based it on my habit of
procrastination!  I really enjoyed this one and added heaps of stitching and water
colour inks..2 of my favourite techniques at the moment..

DSC06731

DSC06729

Last week I did my first post for the Kiti Q blog along with another card and 2 layouts
using these gorgeous Pink Paislee papers which are available in the shop..this
is the Mother's Day card using the left overs..

DSC06699

..and finally, this card was for a National Scrapbooking Day challenge on May 4th

DSC06693

and yet another sketch challenge over at WP..

DSC06718

Hope you haven't nodded off..thanks for visiting...have a good week, half way over already!!

10 May 2009

Shadows and Happy Mother's Day!

DSC06720

We had a lovely afternoon with my parents..in the foothills of Mt. Wellington. which
included a picnic lunch, thermoses of hot coffee and Rhiannon's yummy banana cake
...and of course I couldn't help but notice these shadows on the old stone hut..
It's been too far long between shadows and I've certainly had withdrawals!! ..so
will be
popping over to Hey Harriet's next for my dose!

Here are a couple more shots from today..that's part of Mt Wellington in the background

DSC06723

snapped this one quickly before they disappeared back into the bush

DSC06724

Hope all the Mum's out there had a wonderful day with their families!!

I've been very slack visiting my blogging friends in the last fortnight..please forgive me
and I'll
catch up soon, just rather busy. Will be sharing lots of scrappy stuff soon too "D

03 May 2009

pear and banana cake

I just made this cake using this recipe by omitting the apple and walnuts and adding a
mashed banana
and a diced pear..very yummy and a great way to use up over-ripe fruit
