In the school holidays earlier this month, we braved the cold and headed out early
for a 2 hour drive to the Florentine Valley in the South West of Tassie.. I'm pretty
sure that's Mt Field West in the background..dusted with icing sugar according to Jem
hot chocolate and salad rolls..fuel for the walk to come :)
sassafrass tree canopy near the start of the walk..
and some unusual fungi on a log..
yes this is part of the track..rather slippery but we all made it across (and back) safely
the river (normally just a little creek but we've had a huge amount of rain) was
thundering and could be heard well before we got to the end of the track..
M setting up for some photos..it was very dark in the rainforest..
crossing the river..ready to descend into the mouth of Growling Swallet cave..
I held my breath as they crossed! I decided to stay with the gear..my knees and
ankles weren't up to all the scrambling unfortunately!
Jem half way there..
starting the decent into the cave..love this shot of M helping Jem..
the cave entrance from where I stood across the river..
M took this one looking from the inside out

a small glimpse of the mud on the track..this is tame compared to some sections..
Rhi took a wrong step at one stage and ended up to her knees in mud :P

on the drive home the lighting was so beautiful..as were the reflections on the
the Derwent River..just outside of New Norfolk
Hope you enjoyed the tour..we're all looking forward to going back another day
maybe we'll visit another cave.. Enjoy your weekend all Gx
