There was a pleasant surprise on looking out the window this morning..
the first buds on my favourite camellia (well actually I have 3 but 2 refuse to flower!)
the first buds on my favourite camellia (well actually I have 3 but 2 refuse to flower!)
...and a debut bud on one azalea...
This is a Tasmanian native shrub Banksia marginata..not as speccy as some
of it's mainland Australian relatives..but it's one of my favourites...
It's wonderful to see new flowers (dead ones behind)..because I collected the seeds
and propagated it and it's one of only a few that survived in the dry soil we have here..
it has become quite tall...look at that gorgeous blue sky.. a rarity around here lately.
and last but not least.. Jesse boy..on the 11th attempt he sat still..only after hearing
the chicken squawking..he usually can't sit still for a second.. that's why so few pics
I can't believe how calm and well behaved he looks here! :D
I just love the pink of the camellia and the blue sky, how I would love to see blue sky again. We have been shrouded in cloud for a couple of days now and we are mid-summer! All very depressing. I do like the little pottery man/urn thing, he must look lovely nestled in amongst the shrubbery as does Jesse. I hope a happy weekend is ahead for you all. x

Hi G, those flowers bring back memories for me. When i was still at high school (yes it was a while ago!!) for homescience - cooking, we used to have to do a table display and i used to raid our neighbours gardens and they were both camellias and azaleas in exactly those colours!! I used to just sit them enmass in the middle of the table and always got full marks for table presentation, lol!! So glad you have beautiful blue sky down there, it looks like a beautiful day! Is that the same dog as in the SSS photo? Is he a kelpie, mum and dad had a black kelpie called "shy". and what a cool name he has, spelt exactly the same way as my Jesse, son #2!! lol. Have a lovely weekend Gina, talk soon, having a few B's and one for u as i type;0)

It really is beginning to look like spring. I love camellias but they are hard to grow here, I have found memoories of them from my garden in Vic. Have a good weekend Gina.

Wow Gina! Your spring comes early! We are in the hottest part of summer right now (high 90's and humid!) and autumn weather doesn't begin until alte Sept early Oct, but our winters are sooooo long, or at least they seems that way!
Your shrubs are beautiful! Hugs, Pat

that's it? winter's over? I thought it just got started? hahahha,..... wish we had winters like that in Canada. Wish I had a magic wand so that I could wave you all here for a few months of our winter with minus 35C and snow 3 feet deep....'course, you would want to be waved home again after the initial skiing trip and snow angel making and other fun stuff...lol...but it could be fun for the girls for a bit...
Jesse boy had me fooled.... looks like the perfect obedient doggie...

Hi Gina
That's a great photo of Jessie Boy. I know what you mean about the sitting still. The only dogs that I know who know how to pose as these on this blog. http://pudlarpelargoner.blogspot.com/It has become one of my favourite blogs for photos and the mum of the dogs has become a blog friend.
I have got an azalea in bud. It is wonderful how these delicate flowers come out in the coldest weather.
